What's this website about?
It's still early days, but it's mostly a cosy corner of the internet where I can show and share all the many (MANY) different projects and interests I have, exactly how I want! At least, once I get to grips with the more complicated HTML, haha
As a creative person, it's become increasingly disheartening over the last 15 years seeing not only the homogenisation of the internet, but also getting stuck in the trap of using big platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Youtube etc. Because they are so big, it has often felt like the only real option to actually get your work seen - and of course they are generally convenient, easy to use, etc. However, I find the process of actually trying to get my work seen both completely inscruitable, and EXHAUSTING. For example, people don't use hashtags on instagram anymore - so who knows what eldritch process is used to identify your posts and suggest them to other people these days. How do you let the system know what kind of things you're making, and who to share it with?? "We'll never tell", haha
Not only that, but the whole social media ecosystem makes it difficult for me not to compare myself against others. Having a youtube video get 1,000 views is a big deal, but also disheartening when you see people making work on-par with yours getting hundreds of thousands of views. And overall, I think the formatting of content (blegh, "content") has gotten to a point where it makes your work incredibly dispossible. People's "engagement" is geared towards what helps the platform make money, so glancing at a picture, maybe clicking like, and moving on to the next thing within seconds is the standard.
So basically, this is a chill, low-pressure environment for me to collate nice things I've made - and hopefully one or two people will see it, and think it's kind of cool :)
At some point I'd like to add a guestbook, so people can say hi - but that's another thing I've not figured out yet! haha
